Ein bisschen Theorie
The difference between hatte and hätte may seem insignificant, but the two words have very little in common even though they are almost spelled the same.
- hatten is a form of the simple past (Präteritum) used in spoken and written German.
It means “had”. You use it, when you talk about the past.
Beispiel: Ich hatte gestern Kopfschmerzen. (I had a headache yesterday.)
